Synergy takes Sixth in VIR Qualifying
David Murry of Cumming, Ga. qualified the Synergy Racing No. 80 Oil Heat America.com Porsche GT3 sixth on the Rolex Sports Car Series GT Class grid on Saturday with a fast lap time of 1:54.152-seconds around the 3.27-mile Virginia International Raceway on Saturday. Murry will start the two hour and forty-five minute Bosch Engineering 250 before turning the controls over to teammate Patrick Long.

“We got caught in traffic a little bit when the tires were at their best, so we didn’t end up as close to the front as we wanted,” said Murry. “But this car should be really good in the race. We’ve made a lot of positive changes with the car, and we should be good on the long runs tomorrow.”

The Synergy Racing crew had to work some long hours after a practice crash in Mexico City caused significant damage to the Oil Heat America entry, but the car was presented for practice looking as though it had just rolled out of the factory, and had the speed to match.

“The car is really hooked up,” said Long. “The guys on the team continued their great work ethic from getting this car repaired and ready to go from Mexico City and made all the changes we had for the car after the morning session. We went with a completely new set-up, and I think we’re looking good for the race.

The second Synergy Racing VIR entry, the No. 71 Courtyard by Marriott Porsche GT3 of Milton, Carey, and Kevin Grant, will line up from the thirteenth row of the GT class grid after Carey Grant made his Rolex Series VIR qualifying debut, setting a quick lap time of 2:04.816. Carey will start the race before turning the machine over to his brother Kevin, who will later pass the controls on to father Milton, who is looking forward to sharing his 418th career race start with such a familiar driver line up.

Sunday’s race is scheduled to take the green flag at 1:00 ET, with the event seeing Speed Channel broadcast coverage on May 3rd at 12:00 PM.
